We are told not to judge a book by its cover, but if you did, you’d know how amazing Dr. Anne Burleigh Jacobs truly is.

Often referred to as a “hero” by her patients and a frequent recipient of the “Honey Badger” award by her colleagues, Anne’s ability to persevere and fight fearlessly for those under her wing does not go unnoticed.

When not helping, writing, or educating, Anne can be found on the go! Whether it’s remodeling the local theater, being called “Anne-ski” on the local slopes, preparing home-cooked meals for those who might be hungry, traveling to see her daughters, tending to her garden (aka scaling a hillside with a weedwacker), Anne never misses an opportunity to give back, get creative, and work hard.

While kickstarting her career, Dr. Jacobs, PhD graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree in Physical Therapy in 1985 and a Doctorate in Neuroscience and Physiology in 1995.

Graduate school allowed her to gain a greater understanding of neurological recovery via research studies conducted at the R.S. Dow Neurological Sciences Institute in Portland, Oregon; the Biomechanics Laboratory in Waterloo, Canada; Queens Square Neurology Hospital in London, England; and Clinica Wintersol in Tenerife, Spain. After obtaining her PhD she moved to The Netherlands.

Overseas, Dr. Jacobs taught neurology, neuroanatomy and human physiology at the Hogeschool Enschede in The Netherlands. She was a visiting lecturer and assisted in graduate student research at multiple other Physical Therapy programs in The Netherlands, as well as edited and contributed to the 1st edition of the textbook, NeuroScience: Fundamentals for Rehabilitation.

Upon returning to the United States, Dr. Jacobs taught continuing education courses through The Dogwood Institute and became one of the founders of the Peninsula Stroke Association (now Pacific Stroke Association) where she served as the Executive Director for the first three years. She developed all of the programs and has spoken with hundreds of small groups about the warning signs of stroke and the potential of post-stroke rehabilitation.

Pursuing her love of teaching, Dr. Jacobs was a clinical instructor at Pacific University in Oregon, University of California San Francisco, and University of Indiana. She has provided consultation to companies developing robotics, bionics, and orthotics for neurological rehabilitation.

As a licensed Physical Therapist, she has worked in private hospitals, university hospitals, nursing homes, home-care settings, her own private clinic and most recently in a general out-patient rehab department. She continues to apply her knowledge toward neurological recovery in a vast array of patients and act as clinical-instructor for physical therapy students.

Anne is a natural teacher, a welcomer of all, and a forever student.

Let’s work together.
